WATCH: OSU freshman OL Matthew Jones honored with removal of black stripe

Ohio State Football announced Tuesday that freshman OL Matthew Jones officially earned the removal of his black stripe.
The practice is one that head coach Urban Meyer brought with him to the Buckeyes. It simply consists of freshman players receiving a black stripe down the middle of their helmets to begin the season. They must then earn the removal of the stripe through hard work at practice and demonstrating leadership.
A player earning the removal of his black stripe is always a time for celebration, and the Buckeyes did just that when it was announced Jones was having his black stripe removed. Jones thanked his O-line unit, the Buckeyes’ defense for making him better, and all of his coaches for the honor.
