All Chris Ash wanted was for that giant zero on the scoreboard to go away.

Rutgers was trailing Ohio State 56-0 late in Saturday’s game, a score that probably doesn’t really do justice for how lopsided the contest was. On their final possession, the Scarlet Knights trotted the ball down into field goal range and Ash — whose teams haven’t put up a single point against Buckeyes — wanted something to take with him in the locker room.

The special teams unit took the field and Andrew Harte lined up for a 32-yard attempt. It looked like Rutgers would finally get some points on the board against Ohio State.

And then this happened:

It might’ve been saddest thing on a football field on Saturday.

To make matters worse, Ohio State players were celebrating after the miss, excited that they had preserved a second-straight shutout against Rutgers.

Going up against the Buckeyes has been excruciating for Ash and his team, as the Scarlet Knights have been outscored 114-0 the last two seasons.
