Sure, Wisconsin was moving back one spot in the polls each week to start the season.
The AP Preseason Poll had the Badgers open the year at No. 4 in the country and after a win in Week 1, the team fell back to No. 5. Then after another win in Week 2, Wisconsin fell to No. 6.
Dropping a spot here and there is one thing, but as long as a team wins, its record will speak for itself. Unfortunately, the winning stopped on Saturday when Wisconsin hosted BYU.
BYU matched not only Wisconsin’s will to win, but its physicality. There was no way for the Badgers to run all over the Cougars. By the end of the game, star RB Jonathan Taylor amassed 117 yards on 26 carries.
At 4.5 yards per touch, Taylor was doing fine on the ground, but he wasn’t taking over the game like he normally does. BYU stuck around and eventually won the game on a FG with just under 10 minutes to play. The Cougars’ defense held the Badgers off the scoreboard from that point on and leaving Madison with a 24-21 win.
After the game, Wisconsin’s Michael Deiter, Ryan Connelly and Kendric Pryor talked about the loss, but also about moving on from it.
“Guys are hurting right now.
“We've got to take that hurt, and we've got to all own our part in it, players, coaches, and it's an opportunity to move forward.” pic.twitter.com/PnT1tUhO8J
