‘We just want perfection’: Expectations within Ohio State’s program remain sky high

It doesn’t matter to Ryan Day that this is a weird season. When Ohio State takes the field on Saturday afternoons in 2020, the goal is still the same.
Perfection.
That’s what Day said the goal is at Ohio State, even in 2020. While speaking with reporters on Tuesday during his weekly press conference, the second-year leader of the Buckeyes said he’s not been disappointed in really any aspect of his team’s play through three games.
He’s not satisfied, either.
“I’m really not disappointed in anything, to be honest with you,” Day said, according to Dan Hope of Eleven Warriors on Tuesday. “We just want perfection, and we’re not there yet.”
Ohio State’s record has been perfect thus far. The Buckeyes are off to a 3-0 start this season, defeating Nebraska, Penn State and Rutgers in convincing fashion. This week, a trip to College Park to play a 2-1 Maryland team is the next challenge at hand.
A win over the Terrapins — and an Indiana victory against Michigan State — would set up a showdown between the Buckeyes and Hoosiers in Week 5 with the B1G East title at stake.
Yes, Ohio State has looked really good through the first three games of the season. But when the expectation is perfection, there’s always going to be room for improvement. And just because 2020 presents unique challenges, Day isn’t changing the goals in the locker room.
