‘We still love you!’: Indiana locker room is electric after beating Michigan

When Tom Allen took over Indiana five years ago, he spoke about moments like this. Saturday’s 38-21 win over Michigan is another big statement for the 3-0 Hoosiers.

And it led to a touching postgame moment between Allen and his Indiana team, which came into Saturday ranked No. 13 in the nation. After Allen got done addressing his team, one of the players from the back of the scrum yelled out “Hey coach! We still love you!”

It was followed by an exuberant dive into a sea of arms by the 50-year old Allen.

With the win, Indiana is now 21-20 under Allen and improved to 12-18 in the Big Ten during his tenure.

The ‘Love Each Other’ mantra is part of Allen’s reshaping of a program that was a laughingstock in the Big Ten for years. Now, “Hey coach! We love you!” is becoming a postgame tradition for his team.

So far this year, Indiana beat a ranked Penn State in their season opener. They followed that up last weekend with a tough but impressive win at a surprisingly solid Rutgers.

Saturday’s win over No. 23 Michigan, however, proved the point that Indiana is for real and is a real threat in the Big Ten.
