No. 19 Ohio State basketball lost a tough one to in-state Xavier 71-65 Thursday night as a part of the Big East vs. B1G Gavitt Tip-Off games.
Ohio State’s E.J. Liddell almost recorded a triple-double in the loss. Liddell finished with 17 points, 7 rebounds, and 8 blocks. You can read the full game recap here.
Head Coach Chris Holtmann spoke to the media after the loss to Xavier. Holtmann talked about how well the older players for the Buckeyes played:
Chris Holtmann says “I thought their older guys really made some important plays.” Holtmann says the Buckeyes “just have to be better in a couple areas, for sure.”

Holtmann says Ohio State has to focus in on rebounding and the “ability to play with force.” But Holtmann says he was encouraged by the Buckeyes’ ability to crawl back into the game late.

Chris Holtmann on the hostile environment at Xavier: “We came to shootaround and there was 250 students greeting us in a really friendly way on the way in.”
