What Juwan Howard said following Michigan’s loss to UCLA in the Elite Eight
Michigan had its opportunities to advance to the Final Four on Tuesday night, but missed shots and turnovers proved too costly for the Wolverines. The team’s run ended in the Elite Eight with a 51-49 loss to UCLA.
In the final 20 seconds of the game, Michigan had four opportunities to take the lead or win the game, but all four attempts were off the mark. Juwan Howard’s bunch was the last B1G team left standing and came up one win short of reaching the pinnacle of college basketball.
Tuesday’s loss was a tough pill to swallow, but it was still a miraculous run in the tournament for the Wolverines. They came up one basket short of playing in the Final Four, despite being without second-leading scorer and 3-point threat Isaiah Livers. U-M posted wins over Texas Southern, LSU and Florida State before falling Tuesday night.
After the game, Howard spoke with the media for the final time of the season. Here’s what the head coach at to say:
Juwan Howard: "Franz is one of the biggest reasons why we're here in this position. … It's never one guy's fault because he didn't shoot the ball well. Together as a team, you win together and you lose together."

Juwan Howard on Michigan's final possessions: "We got the look, we got the shot we wanted. There's not much you can do with 0.5 (seconds left). … The play before that, we got an open look that just fell short. Overall, I love how our guys executed down the stretch."
