Michigan State rounded out the non-conference portion of its schedule Saturday, defeating Central Michigan 31-20. The Spartans improved to 3-1 on the season with the victory.
Defense was huge in the first half, coming up with two turnovers that led to 10 points. It helped MSU take a 17-3 lead into halftime. The Spartans continued to pour it on in the third quarter, taking a 31-3 lead.
The Chippewas didn’t back down, outscoring Michigan State 17-0 in the final quarter to make things interesting. But the Spartans held on to get the victory.
Here’s what head coach Mark Dantonio said following MSU’s win in the non-conference finale.
Dantonio says the fourth quarter "got a little interesting for us, but that's football for you." Said MSU made it "lopsided" through three quarters.
