Heading into Saturday’s Penn State-Nebraska game, we know at least one thing: Whoever won was going to be ecstatic to finally have a win in 2020. The other would be wallowing into an even bigger depression.
Fortunately for Scott Frost, his Huskers came out on the positive side, thwarting off a late Nittany Lion comeback to win 30-23 and give Nebraska its first win of the season.
One of the big signs of improvement for the Huskers on Saturday was defensively. Nebraska did not allow a touchdown until nearly halfway through the third quarter and scored a defensive touchdown on a fumble return.
Frost: "Everybody in Nebraska can see the progress the defense is making."

Offensively, the talk all week surrounded whether to keep Adrian Martinez as the starting quarterback or go to freshman Luke McCaffrey. The brother of Christian McCaffrey earned the start and was successful both on the ground and in the passing game.
Scott Frost said the decision to start Luke McCaffrey was one of the hardest he ever made, considering his affinity for Adrian Martinez.
McCaffrey did a lot of good things, considering it was first start.

"That was impressive, wasn't it?" Frost says of watching his veteran defensive backs work in the red zone with the game on the line. "I thought they played not just a good game, but a smart game."

That is quite true, Scott. Nebraska has a chance to build on Saturday’s success as the Huskers take on Illinois in Lincoln.
