Whitney Mercilus’ second career interception nearly went for a huge pick-six

Whitney Mercilus nearly added a touchdown to his resume on this crazy play!
The former Illinois defender and pass rusher for the Houston Texans is having a strong year. He is up to 5.5 sacks on the season with 42 total tackles, eight tackles for loss, and 13 QB hits. Mercilus also snagged his first career interception earlier in the year and added his second during Sunday’s game.
Playing against the Tennessee Titans, Houston was facing the Titan offense deep in the red zone. One throw nearly went for a touchdown, but a hit by a Houston defender jarred the ball loose.
The deflected pass bounced into the air and right to Mercilus as he gathered it in around the two-yard line. He rumbled past the defense and would have gone for a pick-six if not for an incredible play by a Tennessee offensive player.
In the end, Mercilus was tracked down around the 10-yard line. So close:
