Wisconsin struggled through a scoreless first quarter against Northwestern. Fortunately, the offense came alive a bit to open the second quarter after some early miscues on the road.
After a pair of early punts and a costly interception from quarterback Braedyn Locke, the Badgers mounted a sustained 8-play drive that covered 66 yards. It was by far the most productive drive of the game by Wisconsin with Tawee Walker and Locke combining to lead the effort.
Walker gained 34 yards on the drive, including a 3-yard carry to set up a 1st-and-goal from the 8-yard line. With the defense focusing on the running back, Locke executed a brilliant read-option before carrying the ball for the touchdown.

Even with his early interception against the Wildcats, Locke continues to find his rhythm since replacing starting QB Tyler Van Dyke after his early-season injury. He had a rushing touchdown and 2 total scores vs. Rutgers after throwing for 3 touchdowns against Purdue.
Now, it looks like the option to use Locke’s legs is starting to become a more regular feature for the Badger offense. We’ll see if it continues throughout Week 8.
