Wisconsin has lost one of its more experienced cornerbacks just a few days before the first game of the season.
On Wednesday night, redshirt sophomore Dontye Carriere-Williams announced he’s decided to leave the program. He has been granted his full release.
“Unfortunately I will no longer be furthering my career as a Wisconsin Badger,” Carriere-Williams wrote. “I want to thank my teammates, Coach Chryst, and everybody that helped mold me into the person I am today.”

Carriere-Williams was the No. 3 cornerback for the Badgers last fall, appearing in all 14 games and making five starts. However, he was working primarily with the second-team defense through fall camp.
In 2017, he recorded 30 tackles, seven pass break-ups and an interception.
Wisconsin opens the season on Friday against Western Kentucky in Camp Randall Stadium.
