Wisconsin absolutely dominated the battle for Paul Bunyan’s Axe from 2004-17. The Badgers won each of those 14 matchups.
But, last season, Minnesota went to Camp Randall Stadium and stomped Wisconsin, 37-15. Minnesota finally got the Axe.

This year, however, Wisconsin went to Minnesota’s place and came away with the Axe in convincing fashion, winning 38-17. The Badgers took the Axe back.
Prior to the game, current Wisconsin LB Zack Baun received texts from some of his former teammates — Garret Dooley and T.J. Edwards. They are gone. They are no longer active members of the Badgers.
But, they wanted Baun to know one thing before the battle for the Axe took place:
#Badgers LB Zack Baun said he got texts B4 game from Garret Dooley/TJ Edwards. Their message: Get that damn axe back. Jack Cichy was apparently at the game and told Baun the same thing. "That is your one job here at Wisconsin, to not let that go anywhere."

The message was clear: Get that damn axe back.
Baun and the Badgers did exactly that. Edwards, Dooley and Jack Cichy have got to be happy waking up this morning.
