It’s still eight years away, but Wisconsin officially has the 2026 season opener set.
On Tuesday, Wisconsin announced via Twitter that it has added Western Michigan to the 2026 non-conference schedule. The Badgers will host the Broncos at Camp Randall Stadium on Sept. 5 and it will serve as the season opener that year.
The two teams have played five times, with the most recent coming in the 2017 Goodyear Cotton Bowl. The Badgers posted a 24-16 victory over the Broncos, which were then coached by current Minnesota leader P.J. Fleck.

Wisconsin and Western Michigan last went head to head in the regular season in 2000 at Camp Randall Stadium. The Badgers won that contest 19-7. Wisconsin leads the all-time series 4-1, with Western Michigan’s lone victory coming 1988, a game the Broncos won 24-14.
All four regular season games have been played in Madison.
By adding Western Michigan to the 2026 schedule, Wisconsin now has two non-conference opponents for the season. The Badgers are also scheduled to play Pitt at Camp Randall Stadium on Sept. 19.
Wisconsin will have to schedule one more opponent to round out the non-conference schedule.
