Wisconsin football will once again be without the services of quarterback Billy Edwards Jr, who will miss his 3rd straight game with a knee injury.
On Saturday morning, ESPN’s Pete Thamel reported that the Badgers will start grad transfer QB Hunter Simmons against Michigan in place of Edwards and previous backup Danny O’Neil.
The move to Simmons is likely a misdirect attempt by the Badgers. O’Neil has started the past 2 games for Wisconsin, which both ended up as losses. He was able to move the ball relatively well, but struggled with turnovers – so far this year O’Neil has thrown for 640 yards with 5 touchdowns and 5 interceptions.
Simmons briefly played for Wisconsin last week against Maryland. He came in late and engineered a scoring drive that ended with a touchdown pass, but what was more impressive is that he completed 7 of his 9 passes for 70 yards.
Simmons didn’t pile up too many yards at Southern Illinois. Across his 3-year career there he totaled just 1021 yards passing with 4 touchdowns and 1 interception. He also rushed for 84 yards and a touchdown with the Salukis.
Saturday’s game at Michigan is set to kick off at Noon.
