Wisconsin is focused on revenge.
Last season, Illinois pulled off one of the biggest upsets of the season, the Illini defeated the sixth-ranked Badgers 24-23, thanks to a game-winning 39-yard field goal from James McCourt on the final play of the game. That loss didn’t derail Wisconsin’s B1G West hopes, but it did essentially eliminate the team from College Football Playoff consideration.
Entering the 2020 season, Wisconsin will get its chance at revenge early. The Badgers will host the Illini in Madison on Oct. 24 to open the year. Running back Nakia Watson is looking forward to the opportunity to pay back Illinois.
“Illinois definitely deserves a butt whupping from last year,” Watson said, according to 247Sports.
The game against Illinois to open the season gives Wisconsin a little extra motivation to start the season. But Watson says that playing a conference-only schedule is motivation enough.
“I feel like jumping right into conference games keeps us on our toes,” said Watson. “We know what we want to do as a team. We know we wanna win the Big Ten West, go to the Big Ten championship, and even the national championship.”
Wisconsin finished last season with a 10-4 record, winning the B1G West and earning a bid to the Rose Bowl.
