On Wednesday, Wisconsin announced that the school’s athletics uniforms will feature a black “W” in an effort to show support, inclusion and unity from Badger student-athletes, the UW Athletic Department and UW-Madison as a whole.
The university’s entire statement can be read here.
Athletes had been pushing for the school to change the logo of the white “W” to a black “W” and it is now official that the change is being made.
Wisconsin athletic director Barry Alvarez said this in the statement:
“I have previously stated my commitment to taking meaningful steps involving issues of diversity and inclusion in our athletic department. There is plenty of work to do, but I am pleased we will be able to show our support in a way that is important to our student-athletes.”
As of now, it is known that the change will be made for 2020-21.
