Wyatt Davis on criticism of Justin Fields: ‘I sit and laugh at that narrative’

The 2021 NFL Draft is less than two weeks away and former Ohio State quarterback Justin Fields is still one of the most interesting prospects on the board. Some believe he’s worthy of a Top 2 pick, while others see him slipping outside the Top 10 come April 29.

Recently, former Buckeyes lineman and teammate Wyatt Davis joined NFL Network and was asked about the criticism on Fields. He defended his teammate, and thinks the narrative right now is ridiculous.

“Honestly, I think the certain narrative that you’re talking about that’s getting pushed out, I just kinda sit there and laugh at it,” Davis said. “I know the type of guy he is and the type of guy he is in the film room. I mean, this is a guy who is the last one to leave the facility and the last one to leave the film room and is doing everything in his power come game day to make sure there are no mistakes.

“As far as him loving football…he was the main one pushing the B1G to have a season. So, I just kinda sit there and laugh at that narrative. I know the type of player he is and I have to believe these organizations know the type of player he is. And if they slip up on him I think it’s going to be a mistake that they’ll regret.”

Fields was 20-2 as Ohio State’s starting quarterback, leading the Buckeyes to a pair of B1G titles and back-to-back appearances in the College Football Playoff. He was a two-time B1G Offensive Player of the Year and a Heisman Trophy finalist at the end of the 2019 season.

Still, some think he’s the No. 5 quarterback available in this draft, behind Trevor Lawrence (Clemson), Zach Wilson (BYU), Mac Jones (Alabama) and Trey Lance (North Dakota State). We won’t have to wait too much longer to see where Fields lands in the draft.
