When it comes to the Heisman Trophy race in 2019, it’s really a two-man battle. At least that’s how it seems heading into the season.

Alabama’s Tua Tagovailoa and Clemson’s Trevor Lawrence are the frontrunners to win the award. Barring something catastrophic this season, those two will be at the top of the conversation for most of the season.

But what about some potential dark horses in the race? There are more than enough names that could be included in that conversation.

One of those names is Wisconsin running back Jonathan Taylor. You know, the guy who’s rushed for over 4,000 yards through two seasons and led the NCAA in the rushing category last year.

Taylor was one of the guys Yahoo Sports writer Pete Thamel included among the dark horse names for 2019. Here’s what Thamel had to say about the Wisconsin standout:

It’s been awhile since a running back has claimed the Heisman Trophy and even longer since a B1G player hoisted the award. Perhaps Taylor is just the guy to end both streaks this year.

Wisconsin will need to have a better year than it did in 2018, but Taylor can certainly post Heisman-caliber numbers. He should be a lot of fun to watch in his junior season.
