The attorney for ex-Ohio State assistant coach Zach Smith has a right to defend his client. But he overstepped some boundaries with the statement he released on Wednesday night.
Following the news that Buckeyes head coach Urban Meyer would serve a three-game suspension based on the findings from the investigation, Brad Koffel, Smith’s attorney, issued a statement in response.
USA Today reporter A.J. Perez reached out to Koffel, asking for a statement in response to Meyer’s suspension. Here’s what Koffel had to say.
Sought comment from Zach Smith's attorney Brad Koffel on Meyer suspension and here it is:

Producing a more thoughtful and prepared statement probably would’ve been a smart decision.
