Zak Zinter was a key offensive lineman and emotional leader for Michigan during the 2023 season. Unfortunately, his time was cut short, but his impact never diminished during the national title run.
In the regular season finale, Zinter suffered a gruesome broken leg in The Game against Ohio State. While a devastating blow, Zinter’s departure inside the Big House was a scene to behold with fans rallying around the fallen lineman.
Zinter’s injury did not derail the team and even seemed to inspire the Wolverines to finish strong. Blake Corum would score immediately after the injury, and the rest, they say, is history.
Even with the injury, Zinter was selected by the Cleveland Browns with a 3rd-round pick in the NFL Draft. He has since been cleared for the rookie minicamp and officially returned to practice on Friday.
Browns head coach Kevin Stefanski likes what he has seen so far from Zinter, remarking that the offensive lineman has looked comfortable in his first practices back from the injury.
“(Zinter) said his last time was his last game, so putting that helmet back on, but he looks good, he looks comfortable… Just really pleased with where he’s at,” said Stefanski.

Zinter himself addressed the media Saturday morning and admitted he is not as sore as he thought he would be from his first few practices. He’s been itching to get back on the field since his injury, and he’s feeling good in the process.

“It felt great. I’ve been itching to get back out there on the field, you know what I mean? I’ve been going through the whole process, and not being able to compete or do anything,” Zinter said. “It felt great, it’s what I’ve been working for my whole rehab to get back out there.”
As for his usage with the Browns, Zinter said the goal is to hone down his fundamentals on the right side of the line, but he will be utilized in various roles. Cleveland will work on his skill set on the left side and even at center early in Zinter’s career.
