Former Ohio State offensive lineman Nick Mangold was part of the Buckeyes’ 2002 national championship team and was an All-American in 2005 before being taken in the first round of the NFL Draft in 2006.
Now, the former New York Jets standout and 7-time Pro Bowler has revealed that he needs a new kidney due to a “chronic kidney disease.” He posted a statement on X saying that he is currently on dialysis while waiting for a new kidney,
“I always knew this day would come, but I thought I would have more time,” Mangold wrote.
Mangold went on to share that none of his family members are able to assist with the donation, adding that he is looking for someone with an O blood type. He also included a link to a page for potential donors to visit.
Mangold concluded by saying that he hopes to be back with both Jets and Ohio State fans when he recovers.
“While this has been a tough stretch, I’m staying positive and focused on the path ahead,” he said. “I’m looking forward to better days and getting back to full strength soon. I’ll see you all at MetLife Stadium and The Shoe very soon.”
