Chris Collins had one of the most memorable ejections in recent memory in college basketball when he was tossed at the end of a loss to Purdue on Wednesday night.

Collins stormed on the court after an official, was held back by his players and staff, briefly shook hands with Purdue coach Matt Painter, and then pumped up the Boilermaker crowd. It came after a play was reviewed that went against Northwestern, and at the end of a night in which there was a wide margin in fouls.

Northwestern had 31 fouls to Northwestern’s 15, while the free throws were 46 for Purdue, compared to 8 for Northwestern.

“I’m not going to go into the officiating, we have great officiating,” Collins said. “I just don’t know if I’ve ever seen a box score like that, honestly. You guys have been doing this too. A lot of you guys have been covering, I don’t know if you’ve ever seen a disparity like that in a Big Ten game, which is like Purdue, obviously we were fouling that much. I feel like we’re aggressive, though, too, Boo Buie doesn’t shoot a free throw in the game. That’s kind of crazy. That’s how the game’s called and you got to live with it.”

Collins said that’s why he was proud of his players.

“You’re down 50 at the free throw line and you have a shot at the buzzer,” Collins said. “You almost have to play perfect. Our guys showed a lot of poise, obviously not many people come in here and win, and there’s a reason for that, because they have great teams and this crowd is awesome and such a fun environment to play in.”
