Clayton Thorson has had a remarkable career at Northwestern, and he set an impressive career record against Illinois.
By making the start against Illinois, Thorson recorded his 51st start as quarterback of the Wildcats. That gives him the most starts of any B1G player at the position.
Northwestern Football shared the announcement of Thorson’s record-setting accomplishment:
Record-breaker.

According to SB Nation’s InsideNU, Thorson’s 51 starts is the fourth-most in B1G history regardless of position:
Clayton Thorson will be starting his last game in Ryan Field from his own 8.
He has now officially set the record for career starts by a Big Ten quarterback, and is 4th in conference history across positions.

This year may not go down as Thorson’s best statistically, but it could go down as the best year for Northwestern as a team during his tenure. The Wildcats will face Ohio State in the B1G Championship Game next weekend.
If Northwestern can take down the Buckeyes, it would be the first conference championship for the Wildcats since a three-way tie with Purdue and Michigan in 2000.
