Former Northwestern cornerback Greg Newsome II is apparently going to get the start in his NFL debut on Sunday.

Newsome is listed as a starter in the depth chart that the Browns published on Tuesday afternoon. He beat out former LSU star Greedy Williams for the Browns No. 2 cornerback job behind Denzel Ward.

Newsome was picked in the first round with the No. 26 overall pick in the 2021 NFL Draft. The Browns clearly liked what they saw from the former Wildcat during training camp and preseason.

With Northwestern, Newsome was one of the best coverage cornerbacks in the country the last two seasons. He produced 20 deflected passes and 1 interception during his collegiate career.

Newsome’s first NFL test will be a big one. The Browns are going on the road to face Patrick Mahomes and the Kansas City Chiefs on Sunday. Denzel Ward is likely to draw the Tyreek Hill assignment, but Newsome will still have his hands full defending KC’s group of speedy receivers.

Kick off is at 4:25 p.m. ET on Sunday.
