A former Northwestern star along the defensive line is now on the active roster for the Los Angeles Chargers. The announcement was made ahead of the team’s Sunday afternoon showdown against the Denver Broncos.
Joe Gaziano, a rookie out of Northwestern, has been moved to the active roster from the practice squad this week. He has not recorded any statistics for the Chargers so far during the 2020 season.

Gaziano signed with the Chargers as an undrafted free agent after he was not selected in the 2020 NFL Draft. He played at Northwestern from 2015-19, where he appeared in 52 career games during five seasons with the program.
During his time in Evanston, Gaziano accounted for 153 total stops with 48.5 tackles for loss and 30 sacks. He also broke up 15 passes, forced 10 fumbles and recovered 4 more.
Though he did not get drafted, Gaziano has been able to stick around with Los Angeles and is now getting an opportunity to potentially get on the field. We’ll see if he gets his chance later today, with the game against Denver kicking off at 4:05 p.m. ET.
The Chargers are 5-9 on the season.
