Former Northwestern OL, NFL player passes away at 41
Former Northwestern OL Matt Ulrich passed away on Thursday at the age of 41.
Ulrich played at Northwestern during the early 2000s and went undrafted in the 2005 NFL Draft. He played for the Indianapolis Colts for 2 seasons from 2005-2006 and was a part of the team that beat the Chicago Bears in the 2006 Super Bowl.
Colts’ owner Jim Irsay extended his sympathies after hearing about the news. Although Ulrich wasn’t with the Colts long, Irsay said that the impact the player had was felt by many.
“I am heartbroken to hear of the passing of Matt Ulrich. Matt was with us only two seasons, but left his mark on many,” said Irsay. “Great guy, I hear he was a great dad—and he was a Super Bowl champ. My prayers to his family.”
