Rashawn Slater is heading to Los Angeles.

The former Northwestern offensive tackle was selected with the No. 13 overall pick by the Chargers in the first round of Thursday night’s NFL Draft. He was the third B1G player off the board, following Justin Fields (No. 11, Chicago Bears) and Micah Parsons (No. 12, Dallas Cowboys).

Slater was the second offensive tackle off the board on Thursday night, behind only Oregon’s Penei Sewell. The former Northwestern lineman was one of the highest-graded players at his position in college.

Slater was a star offensive lineman at Northwestern, making 37 starts during his career with the Wildcats. In his first year in 2017, he was graded as the top freshman offensive tackle by Pro Football Focus. Two years later, he earned Honorable Mention All-B1G honors and didn’t allow a single sack during the season, despite the Wildcats finishing 3-9.

Because of the COVID-19 pandemic, Slater decided to opt out of the 2020 season and start training for the NFL. His decision didn’t affect his draft stock, as he was still considered to be one of the top offensive tackles available in this year’s draft class.
