Former Northwestern star Greg Newsome doesn't agree with BTN analyst's ranking of Brandon Joseph
Big Ten Network analyst has been making his way through his top 30 Big Ten players before the start of the 2021 season.
He reached on No. 5 on Monday morning, and picked Northwestern defensive back Brandon Joseph — but that’s apparently too low. At least that’s the opinion of former Wildcats DB Greg Newsome II:

Perry was complimentary of Joseph in his breakdown.
“Coming in at No. 5 on my list is a player who I think is just phenomenal,” Perry said. “He’s the epitome of the defensive back. He’s big, he’s long, he’s fast, he can do it all. He hits with power. But he has this knack for taking the football away. When you look at the body of work he does exactly what you want somebody in the back end of your defense to do. And that’s to get interceptions.”
It’s hard to argue with the ranking before Perry reveals his top four players, but Joseph’s freshman season with the Wildcats was outstanding. He recorded 46 tackles and 6 interceptions in just eight games, which led the Big Ten.
Meanwhile, Newsome shut down his half of the field with his coverage ability. The result was Northwestern allowing the fewest passing yards per game of any defense in the Big Ten last season, with 195.3.
It will be interesting to see if Joseph can keep up his production now that Newsome is in the NFL with the Cleveland Browns.
Northwestern opens its 2021 season against Michigan State on Sept. 3.
