The Wildcats are coming off their best season with Fitzgerald at the helm as they finished 7-2 and won the Citrus Bowl over Auburn 35-19. They also made it to the Big Ten Championship game but lost to Ohio State 22-10.
Fitzgerald has been the Wildcats head coach since 2006 and is 106-81 in 15 seasons. Besides this great season, he’s also had three 10 win seasons (2012, 2015, 2017). In all three of those seasons, Northwestern finished 10-3 and ranked in the last AP poll.
He was also named the Big Ten Coach of the Year in 2018 after the team went 9-5. They also won the Holiday Bowl over Utah 31-20 and finished No. 21 in the country.
