Brandon Joseph has gotten a lot of love recently and rightly so. Now it is Kirk Herbstreit hopping on board the Northwestern defensive back’s hype train.

Herbstreit highlighted Joseph as one of his top performers from last week, the Wildcat a major reason why his team upended then No. 10 Wisconsin to vault into the College Football Playoff discussion. Joseph had seven tackles and two interceptions this past weekend for Northwestern, now No. 12 in the polls.

It was the second time this season that Joseph has multiple interceptions in a single game. In Northwestern’s second game of the season, he had two interceptions in a win over Iowa.

So far this season, he has 19 tackles and five interceptions. Oh, and he’s a freshman.

There has been a lot of love for Northwestern’s defense this week after the Wisconsin win. On Tuesday, linebacker Blake Gallagher was named the Chuck Bednarik Award Player of the Week by the Maxwell Football Club. Gallagher had 14 tackles, a sack a forced fumble and fumble recovery against the Badgers.

Northwestern faces 2-3 Michigan State this weekend in a bit of a trap game.

Joseph was the only Big Ten player highlighted by Herbstreit.
