Northwestern is taking advantage of its close proximity to the big city and has plans to host opponents at nearby Wrigley Field, head coach Pat Fitzgerald has said.
In a podcast interview with 247Sports, Fitzgerald confirmed that Northwestern will host games at Wrigley Field in 2022, 2024 and 2026. The opponents are currently unknown.
Those future dates come in addition to a 2020 game the Wildcats will host at the “Friendly Confines,” as they’ll battle B1G West rival Wisconsin.
Northwestern first started playing at Wrigley Field in 2010, when it played Illinois in the Wrigleyville Classic. It was the first time the home of the Chicago Cubs had hosted a college football games since 1970.
Because baseball season could run through October for the Cubs, Northwestern is essentially limited to playing those games at Wrigley Field in November. While the opponents for the future dates have not been confirmed, its likely that all three games will be against B1G teams.
