Houston bound: Former Northwestern QB selected No. 5 in USFL Draft
Former Northwestern quarterback Clayton Thorson is headed to the USFL.
Tuesday night, the former Wildcat was selected with the No. 5 pick in the USFL Draft. Thorson is headed to Houston, where he’ll suit up for the Gamblers. He was the second B1G quarterback picked, with ex-Michigan QB Shea Patterson going No. 1 overall to the Michigan Panthers.
Thorson was a four-year starter at Northwestern, rewriting the school’s record books during his career (2015-18). He was selected in the fifth round of the 2019 NFL Draft by the Philadelphia Eagles.

While at Northwestern, Thorson set program records for wins (36), passing yards (10,731) and passing touchdowns (61). He also rushed for 408 yards and 27 touchdowns during his career in Evanston.
He also maintained a 58% completion rate throughout his college career.
In 2018, Thorson led Northwestern to its first-ever B1G Championship Game appearance. The Wildcats finished with an 8-1 record in the B1G before falling to Ohio State in the title game.
