Kirk Herbstreit is a big fan of David Braun and what the first-year head coach has achieved at Northwestern.

It’s hard not to be impressed by Braun’s Wildcats. Already, the program was coming off a few seasons with horrific results under Pat Fitzgerald, but another ugly chapter was added with an offseason hazing scandal and the dismissal of Fitzgerald.

Insert Braun, the recently hired defensive coordinator and key FCS assistant as the interim coach for the program. The Wildcats responded, going 7-5 in the regular season as one of the best turnaround stories in college football.

The Wildcats capped that season with a win Saturday night in the SRS Distribution Las Vegas Bowl. Ben Bryant threw 2 touchdowns — including a game-winner with 6 minutes left to play — as Northwestern beat Utah 14-7.

Herbstreit reacted to the win with congratulations for the team Sunday morning and praise of “an incredible job” by Braun. Check it out:

Now, Braun will turn his attention to his first full offseason as a Power 5 head coach. Things will not be easy for Northwestern, but the Wildcats will look to maintain their track record as a key developmental program in the B1G.
