Northwestern University athletic director Jim Phillips has been named as the chair of the NCAA Division I Men’s Basketball Committee for the 2021-22 season. The school sent out a release on Monday.

Phillips will replace Kentucky athletic director Mitch Barnhart, who is currently the committee chair for 2020-21. Phillips will serve as the vice chair this season. He is in his fourth year on the committee.

This comes as another honor for Phillips, who has been at Northwestern as the athletic director since 2008. He became the first chair of the NCAA Division I Council in 2015. He became the first active athletic director to serve on the Board of Directors and Board of Governors.

In 2018, Phillips was named the Athletic Director of the Year by Sports Business Journal.

Current chair of the NCAA Division I Men’s Basketball Committee is Kevin White of Duk, who will rotate out on Sept. 1.
