Northwestern is on the board for National Signing Day with a commitment from Calvin Johnson II.

He made the announcement at his high school (French Camp Academy) on Wednesday morning with his family next to him:

Johnson II is considered a three-star prospect as per 247Sports. He’s also ranked as the 19th best player in Mississippi and the 84th best athlete in the country for this class. Finally, he’s the 1,175th ranked player nationally.

Northwestern ultimately won the battle for him but he was still pursued by other schools. Those included: Duke, Navy, Central Arkansas, Mississippi State, Syracuse, Iowa, TCU, and Penn State. The crystal balls for Northwestern began rolling in this past weekend, with a high of 9/10 from Paul Jones, who’s the Mississippi State insider for 247sports.

With this pledge, Northwestern gets up to No. 50 for the 2021 recruiting class and we’ll see if there’s more to come later today.
