Ryan Field will be a little bit different when Northwestern’s football team takes the field this fall, with the B1G barring fan attendance for the 2020 season.

According to Inside NU, Northwestern is expecting somewhere between 1,000 and 1,100 people to attend games this season, as each player and coach will be permitted to allow four close family members and significant others to sit inside the stadium for Wildcats home games this season.

Northwestern is scheduled to open the 2020 season at home against Maryland. Saturday’s game is scheduled for a 7:30 p.m. ET kickoff.

The B1G made the decision to restrict fan attendance for games this fall. Rather than allowing individual universities and athletic departments make those decisions, the conference adopted a league-wide policy that applies to all 14 institutions.

This weekend marks the first week of the 2020 B1G season.
