Sam Gerak will be going into his senior year as a Wildcat and started every game at center as Northwestern went 7-2. He also helped the Wildcats rush for over 400 yards in their 35-19 win in the Citrus Bowl over Auburn.
Johnson wasn’t the team’s starting quarterback last season but is on track to start for them this season as a senior. He only has 135 yards passing and 3 touchdowns for his career, but he’s been a major leader for Northwestern during fall camp thus far.
The other 3 captains come from the defensive side of the ball and it starts with Joe Spivak. He finished with 14 total tackles (6 solo) and 1 sack for the 2020 season.
Linebacker Chris Bergin will be a 5th year senior after starting the previous 4 seasons and he’s coming off a fantastic 2020 season. He finished with 78 total tackles (40 solo) with 1 interception and 4 passes defended.
Finally, safety Brandon Joseph is the 5th captain and the only one that’s not going to be a senior. He’s listed as a junior and is coming off an outstanding sophomore season. He finished with 52 total tackles (28 solo) with six interceptions.
