Northwestern completes best season at Ryan Field in almost a quarter of a century
Northwestern will not be returning to Ryan Field anymore in 2020, capping off what was a memorable home stretch this season.
At 6-1, the Wildcats are heading to the B1G Championship Game in Indianapolis to take on Ohio State. That game will be played on a neutral site as the Wildcats ended the regular season with another home victory over Illinois.
With the win, Northwestern capped an undefeated 4-0 mark at home. According to the program’s official Twitter page, that is the best home performance in a season since 1996 when the team went 5-0:
Closed the door on another season at Ryan Field.
First undefeated season at 1501 Central Street since going 5-0 in 1996.
Looking forward to this place ROCKIN' next year 💜 pic.twitter.com/m18IvQv0e3

Northwestern’s lone loss came on the road against Michigan State, finishing 2-1 on the road with the road trip to Minnesota getting canceled. The Wildcats beat Maryland, Nebraska, Wisconsin, and Illinois at home.
Not only is it a great run and an awesome sight to see the Wildcats defend home turf, but it is also in stark contrast to the disappointments of 2019. Last season, Northwestern finished 2-5 at Ryan Field.
