There are plenty of heartwarming stories regarding the 2020 season in the Big Ten West. Right now, it may be hard to top what Northwestern is doing.

The Wildcats are 3-0 in the Big Ten for the first time since 2000. A big part of that has come because of a staunch defense that has been particularly dominant in the second half of games.

The Wildcats have opened the year with wins over Maryland, Iowa and Nebraska. Next week, they’ll play another unbeaten team, taking on Purdue (2-0).

Based on how things have gone for Northwestern this season, the defense’s timing is impeccable. The Wildcats have trailed in some of their games this season or been in a tight battle entering the second half. Northwestern’s defense really putting the hammer down has really helped things.

It’s hardly surprising that Fitzgerald having success is connected to his team’s defensive success. This team just screams Fitzgerald and if it wants to earn some big-time success, will continue to rely upon the defense.
