Northwestern has added to its 2021 recruiting class.

On Thursday, the Wildcats received a verbal commitment from Louisiana defensive end Barryn Sorrell. The three-star lineman held offers from 16 additional schools but decided to pledge to Northwestern. He made his announcement with a video he shared on Twitter.

Sorrell is a three-star strong-side defensive end, according to 247Sports. He ranks as the No. 50 player at his position and the No. 21 prospect out of the state of Louisiana.

The 6-foot-3, 250-pound defensive lineman was a two-way player at Holy Cross High School in New Orleans last season. He had little trouble shedding offensive lineman and getting into the backfield last fall. Sorrell brings could strength and quickness to Northwestern.

Along with Northwestern, Sorrell received several offers on the recruiting trail. He ultimately picked the Wildcats over other Power Five programs including Indiana, Baylor, Kansas, Purdue, Missouri, Louisville and Vanderbilt.

Northwestern’s 2021 class ranks 35th nationally and ninth in the B1G.
