Northwestern lands verbal pledge from Florida DL
Northwestern’s 2022 recruiting class has a new addition.
Saturday, the Wildcats received a verbal commitment from Brendan Flakes, a 3-star defensive lineman out of Winter Garden, Florida. He made his announcement with a post on Twitter.
“I want to thank my parents and family for raising me to be the man I am today,” Flakes wrote. “I want to thank all my coaches and trainers for everything they’ve done to help me get to where I’m at as a player. With that being said I would like to announce for the next 3-4 years I’ll be attending Northwestern University!!”

Per 247Sports, Flakes is listed as a 6-foot-4, 245-pound defensive lineman. He held offers from 20 other programs, picking Northwestern over Nebraska, Navy, Marshall, Colorado State and several others.
Last season at West Orange High School, Flakes was credited with 13.5 sacks while playing defensive end. He proved to be a dominant presence during his final year at the prep level.
With Flakes’ commitment, Northwestern is now up to 14 verbal pledges in the 2022 class. The Wildcats rank No. 41 nationally and No. 8 in the B1G.
