Northwestern will be losing a key defensive back going into next season.

Cameron Ruiz has officially entered the transfer portal, according to the 247Sports Transfer Portal Twitter account:

As the tweet says, he finishes his Northwestern career with 93 tackles and 5.5 tackles for loss along with one interception.

His best season with the Wildcats ended up coming in 2019, which was his sophomore season. He had 44 total tackles (35 solo) with one forced fumble and six passes defended. That was also the season where Ruiz notched his lone interception.

This past season, Ruiz had 23 total tackles (15 solo) with two passes defended. He was part of the 2017 recruiting class and was a three-star prospect on 247Sports. Ruiz was also considered the 26th best-ranked player in the state of Illinois and the 117th ranked cornerback in the country.

We’ll have to see if Ruiz goes to a different Big Ten school or goes out of conference when he commits next.
