Northwestern might get credit for worst fake punt attempt of the season
Northwestern Wildcats head coach Pat Fitzgerald is looking to extend their 14-7 lead on the Rutgers Scarlet Knights. Fisher decided to take a risk by utilizing a fake passing play on a 4th down and four at the Rutgers 36-yard line.
That fake passing play from punter Derek Adams ended in a disaster as the punt return team played it safe and waited for a potential fake. Adams was met almost imminently for a five-yard loss to the Rutgers 41-yard line.
Oh no, that fake punt didn't go as planned 😬 pic.twitter.com/jlJI86m51p

In a game where the defense of Northwestern is playing well, it hurts the defense whenever the fake punt doesn’t work, especially it was read almost immediately. Northwestern currently leads with a 14-7 score at the end of the third quarter as they are driving the ball.
