PHOTOS: Northwestern students protest at facilities groundbreaking event
Friday was supposed to be a banner day for Northwestern.
The university publicly held a groundbreaking ceremony for Northwestern’s new Ryan Fieldhouse and the Walter Athletics Center.
Instead, it turned into a bizarre scene.
Students flooded the facilities to protest in favor of the “Black Lives Matter” movement. The initiative gained momentum at the University of Missouri’s campus, which led to a protest from the football team that resulted in the resigning of president Tim Wolfe.
Here are a few of the images that surfaced on Friday afternoon.

The campus is familiar with student-led initiatives. Former Northwestern quarterback Kain Colter started the College Athletes Players Association, or CAPA, which is a labor organization established to assert college athletes’ status as employees with the right to collectively bargain for basic protections.
This likely won’t be the last we hear of this movement at campuses across the country.
