Northwestern reportedly hires new CBs coach
A new cornerbacks coach is on his way to Evanston, according to a report.
Yahoo’s Pete Thamel reported on Sunday morning that Northwestern has agreed to hire Ryan Smith to coach cornerbacks for the program. He spent the past two seasons with Virginia Tech in the ACC.
In Blacksburg, Smith served as the Hokies’ cornerbacks coach and defensive passing game coordinator. He’s also had stops at James Madison, Elon and Penn State.

Northwestern is coming off a 3-9 campaign in 2021, finishing with just 1 B1G victory. It’s the second time in the past 3 seasons the Wildcats have ended the year with just 3 victories.
The Wildcats’ pass defense ranked eighth in the B1G last fall, allowing 216.5 yards per game through the air. They finished the season with just 6 interceptions, the second-lowest total in the B1G.
