Northwestern has seen its first player enter the NCAA transfer portal following the firing of Pat Fitzgerald.

According to reports, freshman LB Nigel Glover will explore continuing his college football career elsewhere.

Glover was one of the top defensive prospects in Northwestern’s 2023 recruiting class. A Northmont standout from Clayton, Ohio, Glover was rated 4-stars, the No. 10 player in the state, No. 30 linebacker and No. 335 prospect overall in the Class of 2023 on the 247Sports Composite. Glover collected scholarship offers from 24 schools, including Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Minnesota, Purdue, Rutgers and Wisconsin.

Fitzgerald’s dismissal opened a 30-day window for undergraduate Northwestern players to enter the transfer portal. Graduate students can enter the portal at any time.

Northwestern elevated defensive coordinator David Braun to interim head coach on July 14.
