Northwestern hoops has upset No. 23 Ohio State in an upset that not many people saw coming.

Ohio State upset Rutgers earlier in the week and were seen as big favorites coming into this game but the Wildcats had other ideas. They ended up beating the Buckeyes 71-70 to get to 6-1 on the season.

This is also Northwestern’s first 3-0 start to Big Ten play since the 1967-1968 season. Their other two conference wins have come against Indiana and this current run started with an even more shocking upset of then-No. 4 Michigan State.

The game Saturday was really close throughout until the Wildcats hit some massive shots towards the late stages of the game to help secure the win. Chase Audige hit a three-pointer with 1:50 to go to give Northwestern a 68-66 lead and then shortly after, Boo Buie hit another three-pointer to make it 71-68. Here’s a replay of Buie’s shot:

Buie finished the game with 14 points while Audige had seven points. Their leading scorer was Miller Kopp as he had 23 points with two rebounds and three assists.

Northwestern will try to make it 4-0 in Big Ten play when they get No. 4 Iowa up next on Tuesday. Tip-off for that game will be at 9 p.m. ET.
