On Veterans Day, Northwestern went into its past to welcome back one of its military heroes.

Former defensive back Bryan Heinz spent time with the team during Week 10 for the game vs. Iowa. Heinz began his time at Northwestern in 2003 as a walk-on. During that 2003 season, Heinz solidified his spot by leading the team in interceptions and eventually became a captain.

After his college career, Heinz transitioned into a Green Beret, then a Special Forces Sergeant First Class. The Wildcats unveiled a behind-the-scenes look at the ex-captain’s return:

Heinz totaled 7 interceptions during his Northwestern career.

Northwestern will look to snap a three-game losing streak when the Wildcats travel to face Wisconsin on Nov. 13. The Wildcats haven’t won a game since defeating Rutgers 21-7 on Oct. 16.

Wisconsin leads the all-time series 60-37-5 vs. Northwestern. The Wildcats won last season’s meeting 17-7 at home. Northwestern-Wisconsin is slated for a noon (EST) kickoff and will be televised on ESPN2.
