George Jewett was the first-ever African American to play for Michigan from 1890 to 1893 and Northwestern in 1893. He first played for Michigan as the starting halfback before transferring to Northwester in 1893 to receive his medical degree.
Michigan and Northwestern have not played since the 2018 college football season. Michigan currently has an eight-game win streak over Northwestern. The last time that Northwestern defeated Michigan was on Nov. 15, 2008 when Northwestern went on the road to win 21-14.
